It’s spooky season! Let’s take a look at an iconic spooky destination in California, USA — the Winchester Mystery House. Its maze-like floor plan allowed this house to be termed “mysterious”. This home belonged to Sarah Winchester and her Husband William Winchester, who once owned the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, a company that manufactured firearms in the 1800s. When her husband passed away from tuberculosis, Sarah received a hefty inheritance, and she spent 38 years intricately remodeling her home into the sprawling 24,000 square-foot mansion that it is today. Architecturally, there seems to be no rhyme or reason whatsoever to the property’s design. There are unfinished staircases, misplaced windows, even doors that lead to nowhere. It is believed that Sarah Winchester intended for this labyrinth-like layout to confuse the spirits of those killed by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company’s guns, who were claimed to be haunting Sarah and the home. The mansion has been preserved to this day for visitors to explore its grounds, and we can do that from the comfort and convenience of our own homes thanks to the Winchester Mystery House LLC. They offer both a video tour that can be rented or bought, along with an affordable 360 tour of the building’s twists and turns. Check it out today!
