Let’s stop at the Borobudur Temple in Indonesia! Located in Central Java, Borobudur (bur-oh-boo-der) is the world’s largest Buddhist Temple. It’s believed that it was in use for five centuries and abandoned in the 1300s following the decline of Hindu kingdoms as the Javanese peoples converted to Islam. For centuries Borobudur was hidden under multiple layers of jungle growth and volcanic ash, but is now a popular tourist destination. The temple is massive, with nine platforms composed of approximately 55,000 square meters of stone. Take a tour of this masterpiece to be absolutely amazed!
